Yep, I saved the day today. I’m going to say I saved the trip, too, but I am sure that’s debatable. Before I tell you what happened, let me tell you about the rest of our day.
We left Homer to head to Anchorage and got a bit of a late start. Oh well, we weren’t on any real time schedule today so as long as we left by check-out time, we were fine.
The sun was out but it was pretty chilly. We took in the views of Homer one last time and then set out for Anchorage. In Anchorage we’re staying at Ship Creek RV Park. It’s right by the train tracks but it’s starting to feel like everything is by the train tracks in Alaska. To be honest, I would rather hear the trains during the night than the constant rain like we had in Talkeetna.
Once we arrived at Ship Creek, we had a pretty smooth set up. We must be getting better at this RVing thing by now, right? Ha.
After setting up we made a grocery run. We also needed to get an oil change for the truck. Since we weren’t able to get through to the Anchorage Ford dealership on the phone, we decided to go and see if we could make an appointment in person. Thankfully we were able to get an appointment for tomorrow at noon. Now we just have to see if we can get an extra night at this RV park.
When we got back, Mike realized the ratcheting wrench was on the tonneau cover of the truck. That’s strange, right? We’re told not to put tools and things on the bumper. It seems like it’s a given to not put tools on the tonneau cover either. Low and behold, the breaker bar that we use to hitch and unhitch the trailer was missing. Somehow the ratcheting wrench didn’t fly off the cover during our drive to Ford. Unfortunately, the same couldn’t be said about the breaker bar.
Not to point any fingers, but I never put tools on the truck. I’ve been scolded enough and seen enough YouTube videos to know not to do that. I put the tools on the ground, I may trip over them, but I don’t lose them. Anyway, I digress…
This is where I save the day. I set out for a walk to retrace our path from our outing. Walking all around the RV park, out onto the road, up a really steep hill to the main road, through an intersection and there it was. I saw a silvery glint in the middle of the road. After waiting for traffic to clear, I ran out to grab it but it was only the handle part. The attachment had fallen off. Walking a bit farther and dodging traffic again, there it was. Yep, I saved the day.
I took a minute to pat myself on the back before heading back to the RV park. Once back, we did some laundry and made halibut dill tacos for dinner.
