Rain, lots of rain in Talkeetna. All during the night. It was loud. It was loud enough to drown out the sound of trains passing on the tracks right behind the RV park. The raindrops were so huge. When they fell on the aluminum of the Airstream all night long, it felt like some sort of torture. We got only a couple hours sleep.
I was really excited for this day to come, probably the day I was looking forward to the most. This was day of our floatplane trip over Denali with a hike. The night turned to morning, and the rain was still heavily falling. The chance our floatplane trip would be canceled was high. We received a call from Alaska Float Plane the day before telling us this was a possibility if the weather didn’t improve. We had the opportunity to cancel then, but were hopeful Mother Nature would smile on us and the rain and clouds would clear.
Sadly, the next day as we entered the super cute hobbit-like building of Alaska Float Plane, we knew our morning departure wouldn’t be happening. The nice lady at the desk (unfortunately I can’t remember her name), said if the weather cleared up by noon, we could do our trip then. So, we still had a bit of hope.
In the meanwhile, we took the opportunity of our now free morning to get some breakfast. We stopped at a cute little food truck called Breakfast Candy Food. I had the veggie burrito, Braxton and Mike got the OG Breakfast Candy. All of us enjoyed our food.
As noon approached and the skies were still cloudy, we checked in with the floatplane company. The weather still wasn’t going to allow us to fly. Such a disappointment. C’est la vie, I suppose.
We passed the rest of the day with a visit to the Talkeetna Historical Society Museum. It’s a multibuilding museum with lots to view. It’s a nice way to pass a rainy afternoon.

After our visit to the museum, we headed back to the Airstream. I tried working on this blog but the wi-fi wasn’t cooperating. That’s something we have run into frequently on this trip.
We had Traeger Tacos for dinner, like we did on Day 11 of our adventure. This has become a favorite way to do tacos. Instead of cooking in the rain, we set up the Traeger on the deck right next to the trailer.
Rain, lots of rain in Talkeetna. All day. But other than the rain, the rest of our night was a quite one. Maybe we’ll do a train ride to make up for the plane ride…
