Day 11 – Start of Plan B

We should have been heading to Laird River Hot Springs today.  Instead, we will pass through Prince George and have an overnight stay in Vanderhoof, Canada.  Mike canceled our Laird Hot Springs Campground reservation.  They don’t give refunds but we’re sure someone will be using that site as we hear people are piling up in Laird waiting to hear if the road (the washout on 97) will be fixed anytime soon.

We stopped in Chetwynd along the way to look at the wood carvings.  There are a bunch of them on display alongside the road on “Carver’s Row”.  The craftsmanship is amazing.  We also got some coffee at Tim Horton’s.  We should have taken a pass; it didn’t improve since the last time we tried it.

Prince George was along the way to Vanderhoof and has a Costco so Mike filled the truck with gas while Braxton and I ran into Costco to get some groceries really quickly as we got there 20 minutes before closing time.  We loaded up the trailer with our purchases and set out for Vanderhoof where we stayed at the Riverside Campground.

When we got to the Campground, someone was in our spot.  I told him that we had a reservation for that spot and he said he wasn’t moving until someone from the Campground told him to.  I tried to show him our receipt, but he didn’t care.  He said the spot was open when he got there and it’s our problem that we didn’t make it there before he did.  Is that the way this works?  Rude.

Instead of arguing, we just found a different spot, Mike wrote an email to the Campground people since no one was in the office and nobody would answer when we tried calling the numbers posted on the office front door.

Braxton made tacos on the Traeger – which is an excellent way to do tacos, and then we called it a night.

The mosquitoes were crazy here.

  1. wow that’s crazy – that he would not move. Maybe he will be gone in the morning. Awesome pictures.

    1. We actually ended up in a nice site and just let him enjoy ours 😊.
