Day 37 – Go As Far As We Could Go – Tok to Destruction Bay

Today is a was a big drive day. After bidding farewell to Mark and Heather at Sundog Haven in Tok and thanking them for yet another great stay, we hit the road. The goal for today was to go as far as we could go toward Destruction Bay.

The frost heaves hadn’t magically disappeared from the last time we were on this road – back on day 20 of our adventure. So, needless to say, it was as slow going drive. Frost heaves really do feel like a roller coaster.

We crossed back into the Yukon around lunch time so we stopped to eat and stretch our legs. We had bacon and smoked gouda sandwiches. Kind of a BLT, but with smoked gouda added, they were really tasty.

After driving several more hours and making it a fair distance, we decided to boondock for the night at Milepost 1726 km, which is at a Kluane River Overlook. It’s a really pretty view and the sun even made an appearance today! This is another one of those pull-outs in Canada and Alaska where you can boondock for the night.

Dinner was leftover spaghetti, sausages, and salad. Tomorrow, we head toward Whitehorse.
