Day 23 – A Sausage Mirage?

We are still in Fairbanks which is right next to North Pole, AK. I wanted to stop at the sausage factory I had seen on the way to Fairbanks so that it what we set out to do. We drove, and drove, up and down the freeway of North Pole. There wasn’t a sausage factory. We finally came to the conclusion that it must have been a sausage mirage. Either that or my conception of time and distance is terrible and I was actually thinking of the sausage factory in Delta Junction.

When the heart is set on sausage, one must find sausage. We found a different place, away from the freeway, called Tommy G Meats & Sausage. There we found some Summer Sausage, Spicy Italian Sausage, Black and Blue Burgers, and Black Spruce Beer Brats. Super friendly people there and a great selection.

Next stop was the Santa Claus House. It felt like something that has to be done when in the North Pole. The store is huge, has everything Christmas and Santa, and a little café where we bought some treats.

Right next door to the Santa Claus House is where Santa keeps his reindeer. We viewed them from outside their fence. We didn’t want to bother them on their time off – you know, from their job of traveling the world delivering gifts.

Santa’s reindeer enjoying some time off.

Alaska has some great breweries and one that we were lucky enough to try was Lat 65 Brew Co. It’s a beautiful brewery with plenty of inside and outside seating and many beers on tap. I enjoyed the IPA I ordered.

I did enjoy the IPA from Lat 65 Brewing Co.

Tomorrow we leave the Riverview RV park in Fairbanks and head to another Harvest Host location. Let’s hope we fit at this one! You can click here for Day 21 if you don’t know what I am talking about. Until then, don’t be fooled by a sausage mirage!!
