Day 24 – Arctic Harvest

Our drive today was a whopping 20 mile, 30 minute commute from Riverview RV Park to Arctic Harvest, our Harvest Host location for the night. Even though this was a short drive, we saw some beautiful scenery along the way.

Perfectly rolled bundles of hay.

As we rounded the corner to the entry of Arctic Harvest we saw the stunning property and were promptly greeted by the owner. In speaking with him, we learned that he lived in Idaho years ago before moving to Alaska. Indecently, we arrived before the tasting room opened, due in part to the short commute. This gave us time to enjoy a charcuterie board for lunch that we put together using some of the delicious Summer Sausage we got yesterday from Tommy G’s Meat & Sausage. It was delicious. We all wished we would have bought more. After lunch and a brief siesta for the boys while I cleaned up, we headed over to the tasting room.

Time for a recharge!

Here’s some interesting information: Did you know Alaska has a two drink maximum in regards to alcoholic beverages? The menu consisted of flights, whisky/vodka by the glass, and cocktails. Mike tried a cocktail called the 808, a spicy tropical cocktail. I tried one of the flights (three thimble size samples). My favorite that I tried was the Golden Heart Wheat Whiskey. I wanted to try the Raven Rye Whiskey but they were out. I took that to mean it must be really good. The Alaskan Honey ‘Shine is good if something on the sweeter side is what you’re looking for.

“Hot Off the Press” was the food truck for the afternoon. They serve a variety of Paninis which paired well with the beverages.

The distillery closes at 8pm. This made for a quiet and relaxing evening and allowed us to roam the rows of flowers and vegetables and truly appreciate the peaceful setting.

Most of us have heard the term “farm to table”. Arctic Harvest has it’s own spin on that, they are “farm to distillery”. And not only are they growing everything they need to make their whiskeys and vodkas, they are growing beautiful flowers and wide variety of delicious looking vegetables. It’s a site to see and a true bounty of beauty. I love what they are doing here. It is a privilege to stay and enjoy this wonderful setting for the night.
