Today was our last full day in Skagway. It was pretty drizzly for most of the day so we decided it would be a good day to do some laundry. There are only two laundromats in Skagway, one is a “public” one – near the gas station, and the other is at one of the RV parks (not the one at which we’re staying). We scoped them out and decided the one at the RV park was the better of the two, it passed the “sniff test”.
After doing laundry we went to a Taco Truck, correction – Taco Bus, for lunch. “Peppers”, is locally owned (not cruise ship owned)and has great food. Braxton and I split an enormous burrito that was one of the best we have ever had. Mike had the special: a chorizo burger with chips and salsa. Wow – that burger was good. I have got to try mixing some chorizo in my burger meat next time I make burgers. Not only was the food great, the owner and chef came out to check on us. He wanted to make sure we were enjoying the food and see if there was anything else we needed. He said this Taco Bus was something he always wanted to do, boy – we are sure glad he did it.
In Skagway cell service is minimal (even worse when the cruise ships are in port). Businesses don’t offer Wi-Fi like they do in the lower 48. The main place to access Wi-Fi is the Public Library. There is also a place down by the pier where “each device is allowed 30 minutes of Wi-Fi service daily”. We tried the library first and although we were able to get Wi-Fi, it was really slow. Eventually we gave up and went to try the pier. I gave up almost immediately at the pier and went back to the Airstream, Braxton was close behind me. It’s funny how much we rely on internet, but yet we each have different thresholds as to how long we are willing to wait for it. Mike was the last to return.
Since the weather wasn’t really cooperating for outdoor fun with the high winds and scattered showers, we had a quiet night in and made overnight oats for breakfast.
Tomorrow we head back up the treacherous mountain – the only road in and out of Skagway, and we will cross the boarder back into Canada. Hopefully the winds aren’t as bad and there is a break in the rain. When pulling a trailer, the road is scary enough with good weather…
