Day one of our adventure was full of stressful last minute to-do’s and to-get’s. It’s amazing how much work and planning can be put into something only to have a million more things left to do before “stabilizers up”. Get it? Instead of “wheels up” it’s “stabilizers up”? Just a little RV humor… Cut me some slack though, I am new at that too.
After getting everything “just so” in the back of the truck and the trailer and going through our departure checklists, we pulled out of the driveway only 40 minutes behind schedule. Luckily it was a short drive day, what is usually only about a two hour drive from Boise to McCall was about 2 3/4 hours. Not bad for also encountering three construction zones, the first being a whole 30 seconds from our subdivision.
The drive was fraught with tension as we neared the construction zone just before Rainbow Bridge on Highway 55 and then the bridge itself. We cleared the construction only to see the world’s widest fifth-wheel entering the bridge from the opposite side at the same time we started crossing. Mike began yelling “Why? Why? Why?” and I think the other drive was doing the same thing. We both made it to the other side. There were multiple sighs of relief.
More sighs of relief were had when we pulled into the hotel in McCall. Yes, I said a hotel. Don’t judge. On Day 2 we are picking up our son from Summer Camp and his main request was that he could have a nice long shower in a “normal” shower before we hit the road for about eight weeks.
Best Western Plus in McCall had a nice place for us to park and unhitch the Airstream so that Mike and I could go to a nice dinner on the water’s edge at Ragazza Di Lago. Mike had the special Chicken Croquettes and I had the Pesto Salmon. Both were very delicious. I highly recommend the salmon. The house wine La Bastarda is a Bianco di Toscana and it was a perfect pairing for not just the food, but for the beautiful evening on the dock.
The stress of the day took it’s toll and we asleep by 830p. Tomorrow we get to see our son. It’s been nearly a week and I miss him!
