Day 30 – Homer Bound

Today Mike and I went for a morning walk and let Braxton sleep in. We then packed up and were Homer bound. As we left Girdwood we experienced some great scenery and some patches of heavy traffic on our way to Homer. The traffic was mostly locals heading out to do some fishing.

Still paranoid about the fridge popping open, we stopped along the way to check it. It was still bungeed closed, but the freezer was wide open. Not only that, but the frozen food had come out and slid across the floor all the way into the bedroom. Thankfully everything was still frozen and in it’s packaging…. Back to the drawing board to fix this silly fridge/freezer problem.

We eventually made it to Homer and checked into the KOA. The campground’s decent with a nice view of the ocean. The sewer connection’s the biggest challenge with this campground. It’s higher than the trailer.

Looking around at the other RV’s, all the sewer connections are high. There’s also some pretty creative solutions, many using the firepit in addition to sewer hose support. Ours included the above, and a collection of rocks we found and some leveling blocks.

The place to be in Homer is either on a fishing boat or on “The Spit”. And “The Spit” is where we headed to dinner. Captain Patties Fish House ,on “The Spit”, was recommended to us by a lady at the KOA. There was a 30 minute wait for a table so we took the opportunity to walk down to the beach. Talk about some amazing views! The sun was even out!

Dinner was great, we each had freshly caught fish. Braxton had salmon and Mike and I had halibut. The food was really good and we had a view of the ocean from our table.

Back at the Airstream, we walked around the KOA. During our walk we saw a several people paragliding.

One of several paragliders over the RV park.

From what we have seen of Homer so far, it’s a fantastic place. We are going to run out of time before we run out of things to do here.
